Move Over, Painted Cabinets

Wood is making a comeback.

Whether it’s rustic or smooth, light toned or dark, I’m seeing wood on floors, ceilings, walls, furniture, accessories, beams, cabinets….

Bye-Bye Paint

For the last few years, painted cabinets were all the rage. They were in bathrooms, kitchens, even living room built-ins. They started in white, then grey, then blue, and finally green. I first saw the transition into all wood start in living room built-ins and kitchens. As white oak flooring was starting to transition out, walnut cabinetry was making its way on to the scene.

No worries, if you still love the look of painted cabinets (I probably won’t ever stop painting cabinets, regardless of the trend), you could do a two-tone or even tri-tone look with either the island or the perimeter painted and wood for the other. If you are feeling really bold, read all about color drenching and color capping here.
